How to Play
Welcome to the Open Banking Portfolio Simulator. You are the institutional loan underwriter responsible for investing a virtual portfolio in the strongest applicants while avoiding hidden financial risks.
Your objective: finish the round with the highest final portfolio balance by making fast, accurate Fund or Pass decisions.
1. Start the Round
Enter your name and company. Email is optional.
Select Start Underwriting Round.
A large countdown appears. The game clock starts only after GO!.
2. Review Each Applicant
Each applicant card combines traditional credit data with Open Banking insights.
Traditional data: income, credit score, requested loan amount and debt-to-income ratio.
Open Banking data: monthly cash flow, verified rent history, overdrafts and high-risk spending.
3. Choose Fund or Pass
FUND: invests the applicant's requested loan amount from your available balance.
PASS: rejects the application and preserves your capital.
The next applicant appears immediately, so you must balance speed with careful risk assessment.
4. Look Beyond the Credit Score
A high-income applicant may still have repeated overdrafts, gambling transactions or unstable cash flow. A thin-file applicant may have no traditional credit score but excellent rent payments and positive monthly cash flow. The strongest players identify these hidden risks and hidden opportunities.
5. Avoid Capital Inflation
Unused cash loses value at the interval configured by the administrator. This encourages players to deploy capital instead of waiting indefinitely, but funding a poor applicant can create a much larger loss.
6. Twelve-Month Fast-Forward
When the timer ends, all decisions are locked and the simulator fast-forwards twelve months. Funded applicants may repay successfully and generate interest, or default and reduce the portfolio.
How the Winner Is Calculated
Final Portfolio Balance = Remaining Cash + Repaid Principal + Interest Earned + Speed Precision Bonus − Default Losses − Capital Inflation Loss
Primary Ranking
The player with the highest final portfolio balance is ranked first and highlighted as the current potential winner.
Speed Bonus
Correct decisions made faster receive a larger precision bonus. Reaction time is measured in milliseconds. Speed helps only when the decision is correct, so random rapid clicking is not a winning strategy.
Tie-Breaking Order
Highest final portfolio balance
Highest decision accuracy
Lowest average reaction time
Earlier completion timestamp
Winning Tips
Do not rely only on income or credit score.
Prioritize positive cash flow, stable rent history and low overdraft activity.
Avoid fraud indicators, heavy gambling, cash advances and offshore-transfer patterns.
Deploy capital carefully before inflation erodes unused cash.
Make accurate decisions quickly to improve the final return.
